Description

GELEC Automatic Smoke Curtains are essential safety components designed to contain and stop the spread of superheated fire and noxious gases, thereby protecting lives. These curtains are always deployed by gravity to ensure a fail-safe operation, even when power is lost or cables are damaged. They are manufactured to meet European Fire and Safety regulations and BS EN ISO 9001 certification, with features including:

  • Single and overlapping curtains tested at temperatures over 1000°C for up to 270 minutes.
  • Fully automatic and fail-safe control system.
  • Customizable sizes made according to specific drawings and specifications.
  • Integration with the building's fire safety control system.
  • Slim and lightweight design, suitable for various constructions.
  • Sealed construction to prevent the passage of fire or smoke.
  • 24V operation with battery backup.
  • Unlimited width without inter-posts and drop heights up to 12 meters.
  • Guide rails that can be surface or concealed mounted .

The system operates under normal conditions with the curtain retracted in the head box, held in position by electronics within a remote enclosure. In the event of a fire or during a test, the group control panel removes power to the curtain motors, allowing the curtain to descend under the power of gravity in a controlled manner. When the signal is reset, power is reinstated, and the curtains retract .

GELEC Smoke Curtains are specifically designed to withstand 1000 cycles of operation without damage to the curtain fabric. The fabric is made from 400-440 grams per square meter with a micronized aluminum polymer coating on both sides. These curtains can be used without side guides, with overlapping curtains covering larger expanses and a pair of inverted metal bars at the bottom ensuring retention .

For installation, GELEC provides options such as two-stage descent facilities, powder coating in standard RAL colors, manual override for emergency egress, audio and visual warnings, and manual reset with stand-alone smoke detectors .
